Golden weddings bind Walkley and relatives across states

Mrs. S. T. Walkley of Earlton and her husband marked more than 200 years of marriage as the Walkley family observed several golden and half century anniversaries. Relatives from Haviland Iola Viola Cha nute and Cha nute gathered for open house and a church program by J. D. Matlick, who spoke of overseas farm market tours with Secretary Benson and images from Europe.

NEA Group Organizes Chanute Life Members Meeting

Twenty one of the 26 Chanute Life Members of the National Education Association met at Chanute High School. They set meetings for September November January March and May, discussed future activities, and planned a Kansas State Teachers Association sectional meeting next November. Betty Campbell led a committee to select organization names, with Dorothy Coldwell Nora Knight Jean Vaughn and Tony Lockyear serving.

This Is Your Life Honors Dr Palmer in Hollywood

Dr Mitch ell F Palmer founder of the Institute of Logopedics at Wichita Kansas was honored on This Is Your Life. A John ny Belinda Foundation to aid children with speech defects will be set up as a trust of the institute in Palmer's honor with Jane Wyman as a member of the nonprofit foundation. Palmer was born in Adrian Michigan and moved to Kansas in 1930 teaching at Kansas Wesleyan College Salina later joining the University of Wichita.

Tornadoes, High Winds Hit Oklahoma City and Surrounding Areas

Tornadoes and strong winds lashed north central Texas into Oklahoma early today. Oklahoma City saw a one to two block wide, two mile long path with damaged homes and roofs. Ada and McLoud reports followed with destroyed barns and unroofed houses. Perrin Air Force Base also damaged a plane and a helicopter center trailer. Wind gusts reached 77 mph at Oklahoma City Municipal Airport while a light plane overturned. Police Lt. Briscoe tracked the storm's cloud across the city.

Man Arrested After 36 Watches Stolen From Supply House

JOPLIN MO AP A supply house was robbed of 36 watches and other items Wednesday night. Albert Houston Cook Jr., 36, of Coalgate Oklahoma, was arrested within 30 minutes as he tried to board a bus for Kansas City. the missing articles were recovered. Cook has a police record, officers said.

No Indictments In Parker Case
