A Kansas Bar Association committee proposes expanding an experimental public defender program to 35 counties across four new offices in Salina Leavenworth Olathe and Kansas City. The plan follows six months of operation serving five counties from two offices.
A Kansas no fault auto insurance plan proposed by the state’s insurance industry will be introduced in the Legislature. It would pay medical costs up to 15000 and work loss up to 100 a week for up to 50 weeks plus survivor benefits, aiming to reduce litigation while preserving the right to sue in certain cases. The plan covers pedestrians and passengers and is supported by Kansas property and casualty firms and national insurers unions.
