Police reported several Chanute break-ins from Wednesday evening to today. At Mar Te Ky skating rink on North Allen the padlock was cut and money taken from pinball machines. Henry Hawkins residence on West Main lost a pistol a tape recorder and cash. Roleco Manufacturing in Cherry Street was broken into through double doors with a cash box taken and office drawers opened. McNamara residence on Highland saw a cash box stolen via dining room window. Checks were stolen from Pat Noland on South Highland and $30 cash from Robert Barnhart on South Grant.

Major heroin raid nets 20 arrests in Kansas cities
Sixty federal, county and city officers swept Junction City and Manhattan early today, arresting 18 in Junction City and two in Manhattan on possession with intent to distribute heroin. Warrant counts: 24 for Junction City area and four for Manhattan. The operation arose from a four month probe led by Junction City Police Chief Robert C. Watson with federal and county agencies.

Noland and Huerter plead not guilty in Neosho theft case
Two Chanute men Ted Noland and Donald Huerter pleaded innocent in Neosho County District Court to charges of stealing a car a pistol and a cigarette lighter from John Schultz on November 25. Hearings set for February 24 for Noland and March 18 for Huerter. The car was recovered the next day and the pistol and lighter were recovered after police stopped a pickup December 3 owned by Huerter and driven by Noland.
