Supreme Court Invalidates Vagrancy Laws Nationwide

In a unanimous decision Justice Douglas writes the ruling invalidates Jacksonville Florida ordinances banning common night walkers and those living on wives' earnings. The court says such laws grant police arbitrary arrest powers and offend the Constitution by restricting everyday life and targeting the poor and nonconformists. The area forecast notes partly cloudy conditions and cooler temperatures.
