SPA Power Considered for Chanute and Six Kansas Cities

The Southwestern Power Authority could supply up to 50 000 kilowatts for an intercity link among Chanute and five other Kansas towns and cities. Halemaumau Eruption Ends After Lava Fountains

Halemaumau crater on Kilauea stopped erupting after eight hours of lava fountains reaching 100 feet. No injuries or damages were reported in the area near Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The eruption was Kilauea’s 20th since 1918 and posed no threat to nearby residents.

Train Falls Through Trestle In Milstead Rescue Delays

The Piedmont Limited engine and baggage car plunged through a weakened trestle into a 40 foot ravine near Milstead Alabama. Engineer J M Smith age about 60 of Montgomery was pinned in the submerged cab for four hours before rescue at 4 30 a m. Eight cars stopped at the edge of the ravine preventing a disaster. about 50 passengers were shaken but unharmed.

Injury death claims after December crash in Hill City

Mrs. May Chipman aged 70 of Hill City died in a hospital last Friday after an automobile accident in December. The report notes Lee Wasser for Insurance was unconscious following the crash. The incident occurred in 1959 with details provided by AP from Hill City Kansas reporting.

Banker Embezzlement Case Ends in Suicide in Knoxville Iowa

Eldon L. Job 59 president of Community National Bank and Trust Co. of Knoxville hanged himself after a half million dollar embezzlement was uncovered. He left a deathbed confession describing forged notes to cover bad investments and to fund local donations. The bank had a $1 million fidelity bond covering the shortage.

Cars Damaged In Collision In Chanute

Two 16 year old Chanute boys drove cars that were extensively damaged in a collision at Main and Tennessee about 1130 last night. Thomas H Tweddell 211 S Steuben and Randall E Marsh Jr 1015 N Steuben were the drivers. Tweddell was cited for reckless driving. No one was hurt.
