Wichita firefighter T G Leak freed a cat stuck in an air conditioner unit. The cat bit him and ran away. Leak faces anti rabies shots unless the cat is found.
Weather forecast indicates minimal variation in temperatures with light winds and patchy clouds. Meteorologists expect current conditions to persist through the week without significant rainfall or temperature spikes in the region.
Viet Cong and North Vietnamese troops hit more than 54 towns and posts with rockets and mortars in a second day of nationwide attacks. U S and allied forces report heavy enemy casualties while Saigon, Da Nang, and major bases face shelling. Vice President Ky hints at resuming North Vietnam bombing if strikes continue.
President Nixon urged Congress to raise the debt ceiling by about 17 billion dollars and to redefine the limit so only public federal obligations count, excluding agency held bonds. The forecast calls for partly cloudy skies with little temperature change tonight and Tuesday. Lows range from 30 to 35 tonight, highs 45 to 50 Tuesday, with local fog and drizzle possible across most of Kansas and temperatures in the 40s east and near 50 in the far west. Overnight lows in the 20s to 30s and Tuesday cloudy with a chance of light rain or drizzle in the extreme west. Sunday highs 34 to 43, overnight lows 27 to 35 across stations.
The Supreme Court agreed to review whether juveniles accused of delinquency have a right to a jury trial. Clarence J. DeBacker, an 18 year old from Fremont, challenged Nebraska’s informal juvenile proceedings after being committed for forging his father’s check and attempting to buy groceries.
