Satellite Orbits But Misses Aim
Washington AP report says a doubleheader satellite launched from Cape Canaveral whirled around Earth but only a qualified, partially successful flight. It failed to reach the planned nearly circular orbit, traveling from 104 to 617 miles altitude, with two satellites not detaching from the booster and drifting together. Project manager Dr Richard B Kershner said the satellites likely will last only several weeks, reducing radioed information usefulness.

Three-Vehicle Collision on Main at Santa Fe
A minor three vehicle collision occurred on Main at Santa Fe about 9 15 last night. Involved were a 1961 Willys half ton truck driven by Richard S Keenan, 49, of R 1, a 1955 Pontiac driven by Gary L Lantz, 25, of 324 W 6th, and a 1955 Chevrolet driven by Howard D Smart, 22, of LaHarpe R 1. Lantz and Keenan were behind Smart. Police said Smart stopped in traffic, the Keenan truck bumping Lantz s car from behind and pushing it forward into the Smart car. Damage to the rear bumper and trunk of the Lantz car was estimated at 25, to the rear bumper of the Smart car at 10, with no damage to the Keenan vehicle.

An explosion and fire at Phillips Petroleum Co. Borger refinery fractionator killed nine workers and injured one. The victims were employed by Boman Chase Construction Co.
