Washington AP reports an 11.5 billion tax cut, the largest in U.S. history, is ready for final formalities. Conferees completed the 400 page bill, House expected to pass next Tuesday, Senate soon after, with President Johnson set to sign early the following week. Tax withholding will drop in paychecks dated eight days after signing.
Washington Senator Frank Carlson of Kansas, part of the Senate House conference on an 11.5 billion tax cut bill, warns inflation could offset the bill’s value with a 2 percent rise in the consumer price index. Carlson voted to accept the measure and helped prepare the committee report.

The two fled Saturday night with a third man, Danny Mc Knight 20 from Galena, who was arrested Sunday in Galena. Bruner faced hunting license and resisting arrest charges, McGraw faced assault and battery trial. Bruner had escaped Feb 1 on trusty status and was recaptured before the latest breakout.
TOPEKA AP The Kansas House killed a bill to reduce the lower chamber to 105 members after a floor motion to defeat the measure amid full scale debate.
A former Nashville Teamsters official testified he attached no strings to a promotion offer for a state trooper whose wife was a juror in Hoffa s 1962 conspiracy trial. Ewing King said he helped the trooper get ahead while denying any coercion. The trial panel includes King as the last of five Hoffa associates to testify. The proceedings also cover a revived House apportionment bill and related votes.

A federal grand jury charged T. L. Thaggard with unlawfully obtaining money from an insured bank. The Union Bank and Trust Co. of Montgomery said he withdrew 43000 that was credited to his account in error. Thaggard is released on 10000 bond.
