Pancake Race Entry Sought by Liberal Chamber
The Liberal Kansas Elimination Pancake Race invites the Chamber of Commerce to enter a contestant on Feb 16 with the winner advancing to the All American race on Feb 22. Rules require entrants to be women or girls 18 or older with domestic duties and not a high school student. Participants wear a house dress apron and head scarf. slacks or athletic gear and tennis or track shoes are forbidden. The chamber offers help with applications but is not sponsoring a candidate.

Last Civil War survivor Woolson celebrates 108th birthday in Duluth
Albert Woolson the sole survivor of the Boys in Blue marked his 108th birthday with a White House greeting from President Eisenhower. Anti-Gambling Bill Passes 85-21 In Kansas House
The Kansas House approved a model anti gambling bill 85 to 21 and sent it to the Senate. It would outlaw all forms of gambling with penalties from 200 to 5000 dollars and six months to ten years in prison for repeat violations. Rep. Nancy Weaver, 3, suffered serious second degree burns when she fell into a lit fireplace. her father smothered the flames and she was hospitalized.
