Jeep-Truck Crash Fatal to Soldier at Fort Riley
A Fort Riley soldier died and two others were burned when a jeep and a cattle truck collided on U S 77 three miles north of Junction City. Pfc. Leland A. Mann, 19, White City, was trapped in the burning jeep. Capt. G. W. McWain, also from Fort Riley, was burned after being thrown clear. Ted W. Milke, 52, Council Grove, driver of the truck, suffered minor burns during the rescue attempt. The crash occurred as the truck attempted to pass the jeep as it prepared a left turn into the Fort Riley reservation.
