Congress rejected steps to block a 12500 a year pay raise for members effective February 14. The House Rules Committee tabled a vote on allowing members to decide, a move similar to a Senate defeat yesterday. A 1967 law would raise pay from 30000 to 42500 unless vetoed by either chamber.
NASA aims to launch the Intelsat 3 Pacific satellite into stationary orbit 22 300 miles above the Pacific Ocean using a Delta three stage rocket at 7 39 p m. The 322 pound payload will connect stations in the United States Hawaii Japan Australia Thailand and the Philippines as part of a 63 nation consortium paying 4 7 million dollars regardless of success.
Nearly 80 people packed a hearing as witnesses urged approval of a bill to adopt a Republican plan for accelerated highway construction identical to a measure vetoed by Gov. Docking in 1968.
