Panthers Clip Ravens For Sub-Regional Title

Neosho County Community Junior College Panthers beat Coffeyville Red Ravens 90 87 in overtime at Memorial Auditorium on March 6 1968 to claim the Eastern Division sub regional title. Walter Hawkins and Skip Brandon starred for NCCJC with Brandon’s late 40 foot shot forcing OT and lifting NCCJC to the first regional crown in 15 years. The win earned a best two of three series with Hutchinson for a berth in the National Junior College tournament, a run that ended in defeat, but the season topped Chanute’s sports year with other notable local results.
