Kansas Faces $17.4 Billion Highway Need by 1990
A 1975 study shows Kansas must spend about 17.4 billion dollars to build or upgrade state, county, and local highways by 1990. Wilbur Smith and Associates estimate only 5.2 billion dollars—roughly 30 percent—can be raised in the next 15 years. The report notes about 90 percent of the 10 000 miles of state highways require improvements by 1990, along with extensive county and municipal roads.

The U S Embassy in Addis Ababa said it contacted the Ethiopian government to pursue the release of Ronald Mischalke a Minnesota native and Collins International Service Co employee who was kidnapped in Asmara Eritrea by Eritrean rebels. Survivor of crash has presents galore
Eleven year old Teresa Seymour survived a mountain crash that killed her mother stepfather and sister. Huddled with her pup Baby for nearly 22 hours she was rescued and taken to Presbyterian Inter community Hospital. She suffered fractures to both ankles a right elbow and shock and hypothermia. Hospital officials say she is doing fine with no set release date. People have offered to take her in and sent cash and toys for Christmas.
