Nixon thrills United passengers on secret flight to California
President Nixon vacationing at San Clemente flew unannounced from Dulles aboard United Flight 55. He sat in first class with Secret Service, mingled with travelers, and signed autographs en route to the Western White House. Gerald Warren said the trip was intended to set an example during the energy crisis.
