Truck Driver Saves Son After Turnpike Crash Fire
A truck driver, Allen D. Ayres, 33, Abilene, Kan, pulled his sleeping 9-year-old son Roger to safety as his rig jackknifed and burst into flames at a Kansas Turnpike toll gate. Ayres and Roger suffered burns and were hospitalized. the truck carried 12 cattle, with 10 killed and two spared by the Humane Society called to assist.

Hutchinson Airman Killed in Car Crash
Hutchinson AP reports airman second class William N. McCarty 22 of the 793rd aircraft control and warning squadron at Hutchinson Air Force Base died when his car left a county road struck a concrete culvert after sliding 132 feet along a ditch.
