Editorial Refrain on Cancer Scandal and Prevention
Dr. Arthur G. James of Columbus says cancer deaths arise from a nationwide scandal of misplaced priorities. He cites Minnesota’s rectal cancer results and urges earlier detection and treatment to lift survival rates from 50 to 80 percent for breast cancer and reduce lung cancer deaths among 83,000 yearly cases.

New York traffic provides lesson
A travel essay contrasts New York and Tallahassee driving. The writer recalls long delays on urban expressways and bottlenecks at key intersections, then shifts to savoring southern mornings with Spanish moss and azaleas as idle traffic frees the air. He notes frequent breakdowns on the Long Island Expressway and the pollution surge when lanes shrink.
