Covington Georgia AP report shows J T Pope Jr tearfully recalling his 62 cows and naming each one as he surveys a tornado wrecked barn. Fifty cows died in the Christmas Eve twister that blasted a 400 yard path across Pope’s Newton County farm. The herd was built over 14 years by Pope and his brother Charles, praised by County Agriculture Agent Ed Hunt as among the county’s best.

One Accident Fatal in State During Christmas Holiday
Kansas records one fatal traffic death over the holiday as three Oklahomans die in a two car crash near McPherson Friday. Couple Wounded During Quarrel in Kansas City
A man and his estranged wife were wounded in a quarrel at an apartment building where she stayed. Helen Irwin, 32, was shot in the abdomen. Oliver Irwin, 38, was shot in both legs. Eugene Eastburn, 44, admitted the shooting saying it was accidental for Helen and self defense for Oliver. Eastburn was held for investigation.
