A 59-year-old Columbia housewife finally earned her driver's license in Jefferson City. She scored 80 on the written test 13 years ago and recently passed the road test with a 96 after returning to take her driving exam. Col. E I Mike Heckaday, superintendent of the Highway Patrol, recounted the tale.

Loran R Fenimore 39 of Chanute was found dead by hanging in a Crawford County jail cell early today after being jailed on a disorderly and assault on a police officer charge. Fenimore, a former machinist, was awaiting a preliminary hearing and had been checked at 2 a.m. He is survived by his widow and three children plus two brothers and a sister. Funeral in Carthage set for Thursday.
The Neosho Junior College ends fall semester at 4 30 p m today with final exams. Spring enrollment is Jan 11 and 12, classes resume Jan 13. College offices close at noon and reopen, then close for New Year. District 413 students have final day Wednesday and return Monday. Board offices close Thursday and Friday, then mornings only next week, then close again.
In Lawrence Kansas about 30 street youths gathered at the police station Saturday night to sing carols and present a Christmas poem. The event followed past clashes with police that left casualties and property damage but this night fostered goodwill and community spirit. The poem, written by Barni Mitchell, urged brotherhood among diverse lifestyles and was signed Season's Greetings Rock Chalk River City Citizens.
