Airport Shooting at Kennedy Airport Grips Chase

A young man flagged by an airport X ray shot a sky marshal and a customs agent after grabbing a gun from them. He was pursued across the Kennedy Airport field and captured. The attache case held only a spiral notebook, police said. The victims were in satisfactory condition at Peninsula General Hospital in Queens.

Times Journalist Held in Contempt for Refusing Tapes

John F. Lawrence of the Los Angeles Times remained free after a federal appeals court paused his jail term for contempt of court over subpoenaed tapes. Judge J. Sirica had ordered him jailed until he purged contempt by turning over the materials. The appellate panel said no date was set for the next proceeding.

Chanute Centennial Plans Discussed by Chamber Women

Chanute's Centennial Celebration organizers led by Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Litchenburg urged Chamber of Commerce Women to serve as hostesses for the January 1 1973 Centennial Birthday Party and to help weave activities into a year long program. The Neosho Valley Coin Club will issue 5000 bronze and 50 silver coins to fund-raise while Centennial plates were proposed as another money raising idea. A committee was formed to explore the plate project with broad organization involvement requested.

Computerized Bus Routes Save Districts Big Money

Kansas taxpayers have saved nearly $16 000 this year with a new computerized school bus routing system developed by Dr. Leonard W. Schruben of Kansas State University. He says full adoption could save up to $4 million annually, with current spending about $15 million to bus 170 000 students across 4 000 buses.
