Chanute Christmas charity history celebrates 60 adoptions
The Chanute area marks over 60 families adopted this Christmas season as part of a decades old cooperative program. Santa's Helpers began in 1945 with a 23 child party and evolved into annual lists coordinated by Santa's Helpers, Community Council, welfare and schools, and the Chanute Chamber of Commerce acting as the official adoption agent.

Parsons man found dead in van crash near city
Lester M. Hopper 31 of Parsons was found dead in the wreckage of his small van type car about 1.5 miles south of Parsons. He apparently had been dead several hours. Hopper was a machinist on the Katy Railroad.
