Christmas Mail Rush Fails to Meet 1962 Peak
U S postal figures show December mail volume about 2.5 percent below last year with most lag in letter mail and Christmas cards. Officials attribute the shortfall to the JFK assassination and expect 1963 Christmas mailings to reach but not exceed 10 billion pieces. The 5 cent Christmas stamp, featuring the national Christmas tree and White House, may sell records with over 2 billion impressions printed.
