State Representative Wayne Mixon opposed a bill boosting legislator salaries from 8400 to 12000 dollars and to brighten inmate life at a hospital for mentally retarded children and two nearby institutions. He kept his paycheck but sent the difference to the facilities to aid inmates who have no funds.
Brent Gray 12 of Henrietta Texas had both arms torn off by a feed grinder. Surgeons in Oklahoma City reattached both but Brent's left arm failed circulation and was amputated a second time while his right arm remained viable. His hopeful comment about helping others echoes his resilience.
