U S Air Force F105 jets struck the Uong Bi steam power plant 14 miles northeast of Haiphong. The raid knocked out 15 of North Viet Nam's electric power and caused multiple secondary explosions. One F105 was shot down. pilot Capt. Harry D De Witt rescued with injuries.
The county welfare list shows 22 Christmas adoptions still available while 37 had been completed. The Chamber of Commerce office, acting as a clearing house, reported ongoing adoptions and that some listings were added after the original compilation.
Fort Scott Kansas Western Insurance Companies awarded a contract to Freeto Construction Co of Pittsburg to build a six story structure. Otto president of the company says the firm employs about 600 persons.
Colorado Springs AP A helicopter pilot reported sighting wreckage of a light plane similar to the missing craft that disappeared Sunday with three aboard including Dr. W Randolph Lovelace II renowned space medicine pioneer his wife Mary 53 and pilot Milton Brown 27 all from Albuquerque New Mexico The wreckage was found about 11 000 feet high on Independence Pass near Aspen after a challenging snowbound search noted by Air Force mission commander Col William A Ryan Jr.

Johnson also offered to send a team of medical teachers and scientists to Pakistan.
TOPEKA AP reports Kansas roads remain icy in spots after the season's first major snow storm. The Kansas Highway Commission says snow packed and sanded in north central northwest areas and parts of south central southwest. Other regions report normal highways.
The Kansas Highway Commission reports a work order for K57 improvements in Crawford County. Fred Beachner of St. Paul holds the contract for 10 miles of grading from the Neosho-Crawford county line eastward at a bid of $282,587.76. Maupin Construction Co. of Manhattan is contracted to build two bridges at $28,005. Phillip Stallard of Pittsburg serves as resident engineer in charge.
Four men were detained after a scuffle in Birmingham as police recovered about 35,000 pounds believed stolen in a payroll robbery. The robbers reportedly took 41,065 rounds destined for workers at a small arms plant.
Unified School Dist 413 gains an $83,631 federal grant under Title 1 to build and operate a special services center for grades 1 through 12. The project aims to aid about 400 students reading below grade level by providing remedial instruction, library processing, and support staff, with January bids and a February start date.
