Freed in Mississippi rights murders case

In Biloxi a U S commissioner freed 20th man James Edward Jordan 38 on a conspiracy charge after a two minute preliminary hearing. Horace D Barnette 25 of Cullen La remained free on 5000 bond. Barnette and Jordan had ties to Meridian area. Twenty one men were freed previously and a federal grand jury was to be convened.

McNamara Orders Reserve to Guard Shift in Military Reorg

Defense chief Robert McNamara approves moving about 150000 Army reservists into National Guard units within 60 days to create a ready pool for emergencies. The plan would abolish much of the Organized Army Reserve, expanding Guard strength to about 550000 and saving an estimated 100 million dollars annually for modernization. An Air Force Reserve and Air Guard merger is contemplated but details remain unsettled.
