Prison-born convict seeks life term from Iowa governor
Robbie Ferguson requests a life sentence so he can remain at the Iowa State Penitentiary where he feels at home. He says he has spent nearly his whole life in institutions and cannot live freely, while Governor Ray says he lacks authority to grant such a request. Ferguson has 18 convictions including robbery, auto theft, and jailbreak, with a 10-year robbery sentence due to expire in a year. He hopes for transfer to Mount Pleasant MH institute or a life term to avoid reintegration challenges.
