Plan to Fly Solo Around World Without Landing
Jim Bede, a 33 year old aeronautical engineer from Cleveland, plans to fly solo around the world without landing or refueling. He outlined the plan at a Kansas City Kansas chapter dinner and is building a glider like craft in Wichita with a 53 foot wing span and a 210 horsepower engine. He expects a 150 hour flight about six days and will use an automatic pilot while he sleeps. Bede says the private venture relies on donated components and expert advice from astronauts and doctors. He aims to complete a world’s largest figure eight before landing.
