Law Officers Move Against UC Sproul Hall Protest

More than 200 law officers arrest and remove over 200 demonstrators from Sproul Hall at UC Berkeley after a sit in led by Mario Savio. The operation, ordered by Gov. Edmund Brown, placed protesters into buses for transport to Santa Rita Prison Farm and Oakland City Jail. Charges include unlawful assembly failure to disperse and resisting arrest.

Fire destroys trailer home. Wichita family left homeless

Mrs. Robert Me Linn of Wichita returned from shopping to find their family trailer burned to ashes. Neighbors discovered the fire and no one was home. The Me Linn family, including a father, mother, and three young children, lost all possessions except the clothes they wore.

Break-in At St. Paul Lumber Yard Reported

Merchandise valued at 350 to 400 dollars was stolen from the St. Paul Lumber Co. last night. Entry was gained by removing the office window screen and prying the window open. George Neely says no money was involved. the yard is owned and managed by Bill Burnett.

Polio Vaccine Clinics Set for Wilson County Sunday

Oral polio vaccine clinics are planned in Wilson County with sites in Neodesha and Fredonia. Residents are urged to bring families to the courthouse site where a 50 cent donation is requested but none refused for lack of funds. Children six weeks to 10 years will receive the free service, and additional vaccines for diphtheria, whooping cough and tetanus may be given. Clinics run 10:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Neodesha armory and Fredonia location.

Grief Stricken Collie Dies After Car Traded

In Iola Kansas a 12 year old collie named Ginger Crowell waited daily for her missing mistress who had died years earlier. The dog starved after the Crowell family traded the old car Ginger associated with her owner. A buyer arrived to discuss the vehicle last week and Ginger died Friday night in the barn.

Winter Storm Moves In With Snow Sleet and Ice

A winter storm brings snow sleet and freezing rain across Kansas and surrounding states. Forecasts predict four to six inches of snow tonight into Friday with hazardous driving conditions and cold temperatures statewide.

Johns Hopkins University senior Christopher Caldwell receives a presidential citation after devising a two language feeding method that blends ease of writing with efficiency. 107 Area Students In Government Day

Erie NEOSHO County Government Day drew 107 high school students and sponsors to the courthouse for a day of watching county offices in operation. Students elected county officers earlier, and learned duties from the regular staff as they toured offices. Lunch was provided by the American Legion Auxiliary at the Legion hall.

Canon City Colorado AP report says Star Daywood a state legislator from Walsenburg locked his keys in his car during a visit to the state prison. Warden Harry Tinsley summoned a prisoner adept at lock work who freed Daywood in under 15 minutes with Daywood's 536 keys secured.

Dangerous Road Areas Across Kansas Reported

Johnson Case Probed by KBI in Topeka Logs Request

The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is examining administrative handling of the Glayds Johnson slaying after obtaining Topeka police logs. Police Chief Dana Hummer provided the records under an agreement. A. A. Dewey, former FBI agent, leads the probe with no full case review planned.
