A missing persons alert is issued for Pat Topham aged 15 of Fredonia. Parents Mr and Mrs James Topham request help after the girl was last seen with 17 year old Jerry Lacey of Fredonia. Police received a call at 10 p.m. reporting Jerry had not returned home. He was believed to be driving a 1942 convertible.

Keel Laid For Navy Guided Missile Nuclear-Powered Cruiser
In Quincy Massachusetts the keel of the Navy's first guided missile nuclear powered surface ship, the Long Beach, was laid at Bethlehem Steel Fore River yard. Ice on Lake Breaks Drown Twin Sisters Near Antioch
In Antioch Illinois two eleven year old sisters Mary Jane and Hazel Jean Beaman drowned after breaking through thin ice on a lake near their home. A boy witnessed the accident and alerted their father Samuel Beaman who ran onto the ice and fell through himself. A neighbor pulled him to safety with a rope and the girls' bodies were recovered about an hour later.

Gun Accident Fatal to Salinan in Assaria
Salina area man Thomas William Herrington a 31 year old mill worker died after a 12 gauge shotgun discharged while he was returning from a hunting trip in Assaria near Salina. The weapon discharged when Herrington set it down on a sidewalk and the blast struck the side of his face. He died five hours later in a Salina hospital. He left three children.

Eight Children Die in Canadian Fire

Jump Injuries Fatal to Coed at Lawrence Hotel
Virginia Maddox 18 of Tulsa Oklahoma died from injuries after falling from a fifth floor hotel window in Lawrence Kansas. She had been missing for three days before reuniting with her parents in Kansas City and then fell while with her family at the Lawrence hotel. The coroner said no inquest was planned.
