Four-Year Safe Operation Record at Ashgrove Plant

Ashgrove Lime and Portland Cement Co employees celebrate four years without a lost time accident. Plant superintendent Kenneth Wright notes 1,461 days and about 245 workers with 2,031,315 hours worked. Messages of congratulations from Kansas City executives praise safety, while Wright reveals the milestone fell on his birthday. The State Accident Records Section lists fatalities in the last 24 hours and year totals. In the Topeka Kansas region for 1955 24 hour figures show 1 fatality and year to date 350 with the same period last year showing 263 fatalities.

The FBI announced two more $20 bills from the long missing Green lease ransom money have been found in St Louis. They traced to Springfield and Sedalia Missouri.

Jet Bombers Win Over B36 Craft

Riveraside Calif Swept wing B47 Stratojets out bombed the 10 engine B36s to capture the Muir Fairchild Trophy in the SAC world series. Gen Curtis Lemay will honor the B47 pilots who flew in from Omaha. The 220th Bomb Wing led with 1630 points, followed by two B36 wings in second and third. A B47 crew led by Maj Horace C Tray lor won the overall crew standings.

Humboldt Youth Hurt In Traffic Accident

Humboldt youth John A Wood suffered a nose cut and facial injuries when the car he rode in swerved off the highway north of Chanute to strike a telephone pole. Driver Dennis A Vaughn 16 and passenger Robert L Martin Humboldt were not hurt. Wood was taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital and released after treatment. The car sustained extensive damage.

Walter Winchell Sues NBC for Seven Million Dollars

New York report states Walter Winchell sues the American Broadcasting Company in state court for seven million dollars after his contract was terminated on June 26. The network disclosed the suit today.

Head Bumped- Sight Returning in Riverhead

Riverhead New York reports a 61 year old cigar stand operator, long blind, claims his sight is returning after an auto collision last Saturday. William Francis, who runs a stand in the Suffolk County Courthouse, describes regaining vision from the left eye, aided by a blow to the head and subsequent hospital observation. An eye specialist cautions progress uncertain but possible.

Tentative Peace Plan Reached for Rubber Workers

Negotiators for the CIO United Rubber Workers and Firestone Tire & Rubber Co reached a tentative contract affecting 22 000 workers in eight cities just before a threatened midnight strike. Two Small Boys Rescued From Abandoned Ice Box

Two young boys were rescued from an abandoned ice box in Fort Worth Texas after detectives heard pounding from Arthur King’s garage. Inside they found James Yates 10 and James King 1 who were placed there by Oma Thompson 8 and left unnoted.

Three Topeka Youths Bound Over For District Court

Three Topeka youths Merced Vargas Joe Rocha and Alfredo Cerballos were bound over to district court after preliminary hearings on felonious assault charges. Bonds were set at 3000 each. Edington 16 and Patton 18 testified detailing the incident on Main near Santa Fe with a switchblade knife being used against Edington and Rocha allegedly striking him. Police and witnesses described the confrontation with Vargas later admitting slashing Patton. The hearing drew about 50 spectators in the Memorial Building court room.

City approves plan for two new public parking lots

City commissioners adopted a resolution to acquire two adjoining lots east of the Memorial Building on South Lincoln for a 54-space public parking area. The $25 000 cost will be funded by $5 000 from the parking meter fund and $20 000 in revenue bonds secured by future meter revenue.

Her husband died in 1941. a son survives. Galena Youth Killed In Headon Collision

JOPLIN Oklahoma boy James Lee Gandy 16 of Galena died from injuries after a head on crash south of Galena. In the other car Russell Bunce 19 and wife Josephine escaped serious injury while two Galena youths Martin Phillips 17 and Tommy Proffit 14 suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized.

Mother Found Dead Near Tracks at Larned

The body of Mrs. Anna Stoppel age 48 was found near the Santa Fe railroad right of way near Larned Kansas. She had told her six children she planned to kill herself days earlier and appeared to have been struck by a train.

Wife and Children Killer Executed in Arizona Gas Chamber

Lester Edward Bartholomew, 28, a truck driver from Arkansas, was executed in the Arizona State Prison gas chamber for killing his wife and two young children in East Phoenix on May 28. He entered the chamber at 5 00 a.m. and was pronounced dead at 5 03. He had willed his eyes to the blind and showed emotion only when the chamber door closed.
