Thayer Flyers Look for Turnaround in 1973 Football
Thayer High School enters 1973 with seven returning starters and a 25-man squad as head coach Chuck Main, in his second year, aims to rebuild a team that won only one game last season. He faces inexperience with 14 freshmen and seven starters lost, but expects a stronger ground game led by quarterback Robert Novotny and a veteran offensive line. The defense must adjust to youth, with several players doubling on both ways, as Thayer opens versus Chetopa on September 7 and targets a higher league finish.

At 23, the Kansas alum sought about 120000 dollars, meeting coach Weeb Ewbank but failing to reach terms, signaling he may not return. In a separate note, Colin Dibley claimed the world’s fastest serve after winning the Eastern Tennis Open final over Vijay Amritraj.
