The City Commission approves a $3500 preliminary sewer study with Allgeier Martin & Associates of Joplin to report and prepare plans. It also authorizes sale of $545 000 electrical system revenue bonds to Columbian Securities Wichita and sets next meeting for September 11.
Chanute city commissioners postponed decisions on six sewer projects and multiple paving plans until the September 11 meeting to allow residents to protest. Projects include Westview Hillside Newton tract Eastwood Heights Hydera Aden's Addition Block 32 Evergreen Park and North Kansas unplatted tracts.

Arraignment was scheduled for this afternoon in Alma Kansas.
GM announced the Wankel rotary engine may appear as an option in the 1974 Vega line within about two years bringing whisper quiet operation and lighter weight. The engine uses triangular rotors in an elliptical chamber, saving space and reducing maintenance with fewer moving parts. GM recently paid NSU 50 million for rights to study and manufacture the engine, while Mazda has produced about 100000 Wankel powered cars.
SLOBB Chula Vista names Deana Albee a 17 year old from Santee as Miss SLOBB of 1972. The program stands for Stop Littering Our Beaches and Bags. The AP report notes the pageant is tied to environmental awareness in the region.
