El Dorado Woman Killed Near Eureka

A 19 year old El Dorado woman Kathy Williams was killed in a head on collision 10 miles west of Eureka on U S 54. Her husband Paul Williams and Hillard A Thornton 41 of Pratt the other driver were listed in critical condition at Greenwood County Hospital. Thornton was towing a car while driving eastbound.

Warrant for Arrest After Police Chase

A police court warrant was issued today for a rural Iola youth charged with reckless driving and disobeying police orders after a speeding chase at 12:45 a m. Officers pursued the car, found it at a club parking lot south of town, and reported the youth fled at speeds over 90 mph after being told to drive to the station. Authorities seek the youth for a Wasser for Insurance. Police court hearing scheduled at 4 p m.

Good Trick ERIE One Car Crash Not Damaging

A single vehicle accident on US 59 three miles north of here about 11 30 last night left no injuries or major car damage. Sheriff Jerry Sloan said Donald G Elder 18 Stark drove a 1955 Pontiac off the road onto the right shoulder 142 yards then across the road 20 yards to strike an embankment and roll onto its left side. Elder said he fell asleep.

Four Bodies In Wreckage Of Airplane

Four badly mangled bodies were found in the wreckage of a small plane in Potterstown area after a three day search. The victims, two men a woman and a girl, were identified as the Milliken family from Akron and the pilot Joseph Milliken 44. An Army helicopter and another helicopter crashed during the search leaving one dead and two injured.

New Head Named for Fish and Game in Kansas

The State Forestry Fish and Game Commission hired George C. Moore of Georgia as director starting Oct. 1 with a salary of 10500 dollars. Moore, chief of Georgia's game division, succeeds Fred Warders of Pratt who had been acting director since January after Dave Leahy's departure. Commission chairman G G Boling said Moore and another unnamed candidate were interviewed in Topeka two weeks ago. Warders will return as assistant director. Hunting seasons and rules were to be set later.

Seven Former Police Officers Found Guilty

Seven ex police officers were found guilty by an all women jury in Chicago on charges of conspiracy to burglarize and conceal stolen property. The jurors recommended prison terms for five and fines for two, with sentencing set for today.

Thirteen highway construction projects in six southeast Kansas counties will have bids opened at Fort Scott on September 14. Between Sized Cars For Kansas City Plant

Ford Motor Co announced plans to manufacture new in between size cars at four plants Kansas City Atlanta San Jose and Dearborn to build the Ford Fairlane line. Dearborn and Kansas City will also assemble the Mercury Meteor. Fairlane production begins in October and Meteor in early November with Kansas City starting Falcons and Comets in 1962 before switching to Fairlane and Meteor.

The Employment Security Division reports another weekly decline in Kansas unemployment. Insured unemployment stands at 2.7 percent, down from 2.8 and 2.9 percent. Benefits totaling $290,417 were paid to 6,960 individuals.

Eureka man identified as driver in early morning crash

Police identified Floyd H. Ware of Eureka as the driver of a 1961 Pontiac that struck a drainage ditch guard rail at Garfield and Elm. The incident occurred about 4 am and damage totaled 48.50 to the bumper and fender plus 26 for the guard rail. Ware, a salesman for a Fort Worth firm, said he was unaware he was not on a through street and agreed to pay for the guard rail repairs. no charges were filed.

Missouri youths reach New Orleans after Mississippi voyage

Eddie Howell of Boonville Missouri and Richard Saliman of Topeka Kansas arrived in New Orleans aboard a homemade raft they launched 34 days earlier at Boonville Missouri. They drifted by day and rested ashore each night. After sightseeing they plan to sell the raft and return home.
