A tractor trailer carrying 34 head of cattle overturned into a ditch near Sedalia Missouri. Twenty six cattle died in the crash. The driver Jay Henson 31 and a passenger A L Ray 34 of Springfield escaped injury.

Hand Waving From Car Trunk Brings Rescue in Kansas City
Police halted a car in Kansas City after a hand waved from a partially opened trunk. James Richard Essen, an escaped Ohio convict armed with a pistol, was arrested. Victims Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wagner of Salina were hospitalized with injuries after being forced into the trunk about six hours earlier while en route to Salina. Essen had been hitchhiking in St. Louis and fled from an Ohio life sentence for murder.
