Family finds pet blue jay in Chanute home
The Kidwell family in Chanute adopted Pete the blue jay as a baby after Vicki Kidwell found him in an Emporia schoolyard. Pete settled at 1115 West Fourth, roosting on a cup of milk soaked bread crumbs and awaiting hand feeding, before the family moved back to Chanute and released him. Meanwhile a lone buffalo named Grandma near Chanute was struck by lightning during a Monday storm and died in her pasture, part of a herd once sold to a Montana rancher.
