Cuba Holds Hijacker Faces U S Charges After Hijack
Pan American flight 501 was hijacked to Havana by Albert Cadon a French native and ex mental patient. U S federal charges were filed for hijacking with a dangerous weapon and assault with intent to commit aboard the DC8. Cadon remained in Cuban custody as passengers were cleared to resume travel. Professor Denis McAuliffe of Marymount College Salina was aboard and survived.

In Havana on Wednesday a Cuban airliner with 48 passengers 3 crew and 2 guards was hijacked after takeoff from Boyeros Airport bound for the Isle of Pines. A gun battle killed the captain Luis Alvarez Regato a guard Silvino Sanchez Almaguez and a hijacker. Co pilot Alberto Bayo and four others were wounded as the plane crash landed in a sugar cane field. Hijackers fled into nearby fields as militiamen surrounded the area. Prime Minister Fidel Castro urged the U.S. to halt hijackings between the two nations.

A four year old girl, Connie Hicks, was struck and killed Wednesday by an unoccupied car that rolled down a slope in a Kansas City trailer camp on the southeast outskirts. The car belonged to her aunt, Ida Remy, who parked it behind a trailer home and set the brakes. Investigators report the transmission was in drive, and residents say children had been playing near the car before it moved.

Truck Upsets West of Erie Near Highway Edge
A semi-trailer truck carrying 26 000 pounds of insulation sheeting rolled over on US 59 at the west edge of Erie about 11 30 a m yesterday. Driver Charles D Hicks 32 of DeQueen Ark was uninjured. Sheriff Jerry Sloan estimates damage at 1 000 to the 1958 International truck and trailer.
