Gunmen Use Child as Bargaining Point in Ohio Siege
Three youths robbed a grocery store and wounded a Canton area patrolman then held six people at Homer Fenstemaker's farm home near Louisville. After a two hour siege and telephone threats, police used an armored car and tear gas to force surrender. A 9 year old girl Connie Fenstemaker was among the held family. The robbers handed $306 to Connie before surrendering. the $400 grocery store holdup had sparked the ordeal.

Tragic Train Crash Claims Mother and Two Children
In Huron Ohio a speeding New York Central express struck a baby carriage carrying Mrs. Ernest Ball and two of her children as they crossed a six track crossing. Ball and her three other children watched as the train, moving at eighty miles per hour, could not stop in time. Mary Ann age three and Ruth Arlene eight weeks died at the scene. The husband and bystanders witnessed the tragedy.

Donald M. Whitworth of Wichita was charged with leaving the scene after a collision with a parked 1954 Buick at 313 West Main. 11 Youths Hurt in Phoenix Dance Hall Fights
