Girl 3 Falls From Second Floor Window

Three year old Vickie Lynn Petty fell from a second floor window in the family apartment on Grant Street while her mother washed dishes. She suffered no broken bones and was mobile in hospital by afternoon. A meat truck driver who stopped to deliver at Jeff's Foodliner found her and carried her inside for care.

Woman Pleads Guilty On Five Check Violation Charges

Bonnie Nickel of Iola pleaded guilty in city court to five misdemeanor check violations. She received 30 days in county jail on each count, to run consecutively for a total of 150 days. Authorities say the charges stem from five no fund checks passed at Chanute stores after an arrest in Iola last week.

Kansas remained generally clear with mild temperatures though the northwest saw scattered morning showers. Highs reached 90 to 95 degrees with tonight’s lows near 70. Monday’s highs varied from 86 in Topeka to 97 in Goodland, with overnight lows from 60 to 81. light showers possible in the west and northwest.

Woman Saved From Smoke Filled Wichita Apartment Fire

In Wichita a 50 year old woman, Mrs. Ollie Stewart, was in critical condition after getting lost in smoke and collapsing in a closet. Firemen credited ambulance staff with saving her life and both she and her husband, Carl Stewart, were hospitalized with burns and smoke effects. The fire started in a downstairs apartment owned by Gerald and Letha Sonntag. Sonntag had minor injuries and Letha was unharmed.
