New Social Security Law Lifts Benefits Countywide
A new social security law raises seven percent benefits for 3 003 county recipients of old age survivor and disability payments retroactive to January 1 1965. Total monthly payments rise to 205 000 dollars, about 68 dollars per person with roughly 4 50 dollars average increase. Kansas City police say Virgil May, 60, shot Ronald Frank Joe, 24, after Joe struck him with a hammer from behind. May, who suffered two scalp wounds, fired when Joe ran behind the counter. Joe died of a chest wound. A car with its engine running was found near the store. Joe had been under a peace bond forbidding him near the drugstore.
