Three people died in Kansas traffic incidents over the weekend. Hazel Spillman, 26, of near Kincaid, killed in a two car crash northeast of Moran. twin sister Helen injured critically. Father Charley Spillman, 71, in fair condition at Allen County Hospital Iola. Also hospitalized were six members of the other car from Moran area. Maley, 30, most severely hurt. Harry Whitney, 68, drowned after his pickup went into Spring Hill Lake. Robert Schreiber, 21, Leavenworth, killed when his car struck a utility pole near Lansing.
Chamber groups plan three meetings this week per Chamber Manager Joe Melnyk. The new industry committee holds a lunch tomorrow at noon at the Tioga Hotel, the Ambassador Club meets Wednesday at noon at the Tioga, and the parks and recreation committee gathers Thursday at 4:30 p.m. in the chamber offices. Paul Brennecke chairs the new industry committee, Ralph Ellis leads the Ambassador Club, and Glen Halbe heads parks and recreation.

Three Chanute National Guard men were injured when their jeep overturned on highway K47 about 4 miles east of Fredonia Sunday around 3 p.m. The crew, Pvt. Cecil Borjas, Cpl. Fred Bright, and Pfc. Bob Murrah, were returning borrowed jeep gear from Fredonia and met a car on a curve. The jeep hit a sign post, overturned, and was demolished. Borjas suffered a forehead gash and facial cuts with a back injury and was later taken to Neosho Memorial Hospital for observation. two other guardsmen were treated at St. Margaret’s Hospital and released. It was the first accident in nine years for the unit.
Two non injury traffic accidents investigated by the Erie sheriff week end. First at east edge of St. Paul five blocks north of K57 involved two 1956 Chevrolet cars driven by Joseph G. Schoenhofer and Fred F. Fager both of St. Paul with minor front damage totaling 150 and 100 dollars. Second crash occurred about 10 am yesterday six miles south and two east of Erie between Edison Hill and Charles E. Plee. Hill’s 1951 Plymouth owned by W H Hoffman Erie sustained 300 dollars in front damage. Plee’s 1958 Chevrolet had 100 dollars damage to right side and rear.
Washington AP reports President Kennedy will not hold a news conference this week according to White House statements.
Police said three local boys aged 10 to 12 damaged the Highland Park colored lights fountain after a baseball game. One admitted involvement. parents agreed to pay, with total damage estimated at 25 dollars. Names withheld due to age. $100 reward not paid as case closed.

Chicago AP reports railroads gave notice to five operating unions that new economy rules will take effect August 16 for 200000 on train employees. The move comes while a union petition to block the changes is in U.S. District Court. The rules extend proposals railroads made on November 2, 1959.
Topeka AP report forecasts continued hot and humid weather in Kansas with scattered thunderstorms across eastern regions tonight into Tuesday. Heat relief remains limited as highs Sunday reach 89 to 99 across cities such as Topeka and Garden City, with overnight lows between 63 and 77 and several northern central points receiving one to three inches of rain Saturday.
AP from Uppsala Sweden reports the Soviet Union launched a new nuclear test series with a blast around 40 megatons, second only to last October, touching off at Arctic Siberia near Novaya Zemlya. Western officials view it as a somber episode while pursuing a test ban.
In London, Dr. Robert Soblen a 61 year old Russian spy and Israeli whistleblower fights to be returned to Israel to pursue his bid to avoid a life sentence in a U S prison. His Israeli attorney says Soblen could be back by Thursday to continue the legal battle.
At the United Nations disarmament conference Soviet Deputy Foreign Minister Valerian A Zorin dismissed Western new proposals for a nuclear test ban as unlikely to break the deadlock. He noted US Ambassador Arthur H Dean discussed ideas informally and that Western position remains unchanged. Dean, who returned from Washington, said proposals to cut inspections and curb new weapon tests would be presented soon. He also sought amendments to ban production of new weapons in the first disarmament stage, but Zorin warned they do not alter US stance on eliminating delivery vehicles.
