Horse Meat Prices Jump as Zoo buys Bigger Quantities
Dewey Garvey, Brookfield Zoo commissary manager, reports horse meat prices rising from 33 to 66 cents a pound since January. The zoo uses 300 pounds daily for about 100 horses and other animals, with cereal and fish meal costs also up. Garvey says the budget rose from 150000 to 180000 annually as they shop around to cut shipping and save money.
