Harder halts moves to Norton Hospital
Dr. Robert C. Harder, secretary of social and rehabilitation services, ordered a halt on patient transfers to Norton State Hospital in northwestern Kansas. He announced three steps to correct an overburdened system at Norton, where staff and facilities have struggled to care for patients beyond the hospital’s intended role. A review of potential Norton transfers will precede any future admissions, and other institutions will not transfer new patients to Norton for now.
