London reports say Britain instructed El Al to transport fugitive spy Dr. Robert Soblen to New York to face a life sentence for Soviet espionage. El Al declined citing Israeli government instructions, while Pan American noted Soblen can only fly direct to New York via Shannon.

Contests Heated Across Four-County Area in Primary

Voters in Chanute four-county area face a sparse slate with many write-in races. Stationary satellite planned by Hughes Aerospace

Hughes Aircraft says a cylindrical satellite designed to hover over a fixed point on Earth could provide continuous worldwide television. The 500 pound craft would orbit at 22300 miles altitude, matching Earth's rotation to appear stationary, potentially viewing about a third of the planet. Experimental versions are to be launched next year, with a full system possibly covering the globe using 40 to 50 low altitude satellites.

Indications Ranney’s Life To Be Saved

Indications are that the death sentence for Kansan Roger Ranney in Greece may be commuted to life imprisonment. A U S embassy telegram reported a special legal counsel’s recommendation for commutation and a royal decree could issue soon. Ranney, 28, of Chanute, was sentenced to die for the murder of two Greek seamen during a 1960 voyage. the bodies were never found.

An American tourist, unnamed by police, said his wife drove on in the Sandy Bay district 50 miles northwest of Prince Albert while he stood by a trailer to watch bears cross the road. Police caught up after 70 miles and reunited the couple.
