USD 413 budget hearing probes taxes and enrollment

The USD 413 board heard questions on a proposed 3,988,817 budget for 1977 78 with a 2,657,437 general fund and a 15,845.33 rise in utility costs. State aid covers about 47 percent, down from 50 percent due to enrollment dropping from 2312 to an estimated 2260.

Neosho County approves budget with mill levy drop

Neosho County commissioners approve a 1978 budget reflecting a nearly 2 percent mill levy cut tied to a $3.8 million valuation rise to $55,734,926. Department heads presented budgets this year. all department heads get monthly $50 raises while other county workers receive 6 percent raises. A public hearing is set for August 15 at 10 a.m. at the courthouse. They also approve $200 for a Chanute drainage ditch to curb a mosquito breeding site, with Chanute covering half of a $4,000 project, 5 percent from the county. RSVP funding discussed but Chanute not committed.

Robert Violante, 20, was wounded and lost an eye. Authorities describe a 25 to 35 year old, stocky man with blue denim clothing and possible wig.

Savonburg Votes to Install City Sewer System
