DETROIT AP reports the 1961 model year cars begin rolling from plants this week with Buick and Plymouth modeling new offerings. Oldsmobile starts F-85 in volume next month, Pontiac may delay Tempest until October. Four Persons Injured In Crash Near St. Paul

Four people suffered minor injuries in a one car accident on county road 2 miles north of St. Paul Sunday night. The group included Donald R. James 23 Carl Boaz Jr. 21 Ronnie Killough 14 and Susan Querien 13 all of Walnut and Eric. They were treated at Mercy Hospital Parsons and released except Miss Querien who was to be released today. The Ford belonged to Gary Emerick 23 of Fort Scott and the driver was not determined yet.

Kansas Heat Wave Keeps Front Likely Through Wednesday

Topeka AP reports Kansas faces a hot spell with temperatures rising past 100 degrees in western areas. The Weather Bureau foresees highs in the mid and upper 90s today, followed by a modest cool front that should push temperatures into the middle and lower 90s Wednesday.

Nine precincts report Republican governor results with John Anderson Jr. ahead of Huck Boyd by 102 votes and W. H. Addington far behind. In U.S. Senate GOP contest P. Cleaver Jr. and Walter McVey lead in district three. Democrats show limited results with Frank Theis leading Henkle for Senate and John W. Lapham leading for state commissioner. Fire losses and runs for Chanute fire department

Fire Chief C. W. Brennan reported July losses totaling 1000 dollars, lifting the year to date seven months to 11755 dollars. Nine runs were made in July, matching last year, with 92 runs for the year to Aug 1 compared to 154 last year. Activities included residential and car fires, business building and garage fires, a resuscitator call, a lost bird, and a standby during a boxcar burn near a city utility pole.

Polio cases rise in Rhode Island with 14 year old afflicted

In Providence Rhode Island a 14 year old girl who had three Salk shots developed bulbar polio. The statewide total for the year reached 76 with four deaths reported.

Anderson Leads Early In Kansas Gubernatorial Primary

Early returns from eastern Kansas show Atty. Gen. John Anderson leading McDill Boyd by about 3 to 2 in the Republican governor race. Democrat Frank Theis holds a narrow margin over Lt. Gov. Joseph Henkle for the U.S. Senate nomination, with Schoeppel far ahead of Henry Cleaver in the Republican Senate race.

Brennecke was chosen president by Chanute Board of Education at the annual reorganization after the regular meeting. Floyd Pot Iter, the previous president, was replaced. Floyd Naff named vice president. Evelyn Woodruff re elected clerk and Joe Balch reappointed as attorney.

Humboldt Man Is Questioned In Wife Death

Ivan Thoman, charged with first degree murder in the death of his common-law wife in Humboldt, is being questioned by Allen County authorities. The body was found Saturday morning. death is attributed to beating and strangulation around midnight Friday. Local officials say questioning concerns the period up to Thursday night prior to the death.

Driver Fined 250 and Jailed for DWI in Thayer Court

Jess D. Lock of Route 1 pleaded guilty in the Thayer justice of the peace court to driving while intoxicated and received 250 dollars fine and six months in the county jail. He also paid 25 dollars for no driver's license and 5 dollars court costs. The arrest was made by highway patrol on Sunday.

Two Car Collision on Highway K39 Near Chanute

A two vehicle crash on highway K39 about 9 a.m. east of Chanute caused damage estimated at 200 dollars to a 1955 Chevrolet driven by Nellie Pauline l Rensing and 500 dollars to a Renault driven by Robert C. Milburn of Hutchinson. No injuries were reported.
