The body of 28 year old Paul Edwin Young was found by a passer near Dry Creek two miles west of Nevada. Coroner Richard Shorten ruled drowning as the cause. Young, a field man for a tractor manufacturer, had been in Fort Scott on business.

School Vote Postponed For Allen County Consolidation

Brown Burned in Home Fire Injures 95 Year Old Resident
Fred Brown, 95, of 95 N Garfield sustained second degree burns on both arms and on his neck and chin in a nighttime apartment blaze. He received care at Neosho Memorial Hospital. Fire Chief Brennan attributed the fire to fumes from washing clothes in gasoline near a hot water heater, damaging the bathroom, kitchen, and furnishings of the Bartholomew owned apartment at 905 N Garfield.

ERIE Charges of breaking and entering will be filed against two youths apprehended at the H L Umbarger filling station in Thayer. Harvey Dean Jr. 16 Neodesha and Leo W Blake Morehead were caught by employee Roy Godding about 11 p.m. with two tires and wheels from Ivan Engel Thayer. They were taken into custody and are held in the county jail. A separate note reports a break in at St Paul public school over the weekend with $32 missing from drive collection cans.

Coffeyville man William Moore pulled a knife on a city marshal, seized the marshal’s revolver, and fled in the marshal’s car eight miles north of Coffeyville while being transported to Independence jail on a bad check charge. Marshal Roy Bryan escaped uninjured after the incident. Moore had earlier been arrested at Girard, Kansas.
