Two Humboldt Men Held After Robbery North of Here
Two Humboldt men Clifford Cheney 26 and Gerald Cheney 25 were arrested near Parsons at 5:30 a.m. for a robbery and car theft at Woodruff Oil Co north of here about two and a half hours earlier. They were jailed in Erie pending charges. The incident began when Paul Hansen attendant at Woodruff station said two men in a Ford truck ordered gas and change, then forced him at gunpoint to surrender cash totaling about 80 to 95 dollars before fleeing in a 1959 Chevrolet. The Ford was stolen in Humboldt around 2 a.m. from C M Vaughn. authorities linked it to a break in at Humboldt ice and locker plant. The Cheneys were captured in a field 142 miles south of Parsons. Police and sheriff's deputies from multiple agencies assisted in the arrest.

Youth Kills Policeman in Stockton and Modesto Chase

US59 Realigned to Bypass Chanute to Garnett Route
The Kansas Highway Commission said US59 will no longer run with US169 between Chanute and near Garnett. Petty Larceny Charge Planned For Two Chanute Youths
Police chief Lige Matlock said a petty larceny charge will be filed in city court against a 16 year old rural Chanute boy and juvenile charges against his 14 year old companion for stealing a pair of shoes from the Self Service Shoe Store on West Main. The pair were arrested minutes after leaving the store in a car and were released pending hearings.
