Kansas City Plant Blast Kills Three and Injures Five
A chain of explosions and fire at the Thompson-Hayward Chemical Co. plant leveled a block of building, killing James M. Lewis 28 and Walter L. Evans 22 and Otis J. Young 26, injuring five others as a weed killer tank exploded. The blast rattled windows 12 miles away and halted downtown traffic. Police cordoned off the area while fire crews battled the flames and investigated the cause.

Cherryvale Students Admit Stealing Articles
About 15 Cherryvale High School pupils admitted to police and a KBI agent that they stole articles from Pittsburg merchants and the Kansas State College of Pittsburg during a music festival on April 3. Police Chief Ralph Beard said some pupils boarded a Cherryvale bus only if they had stolen items, and some offenders mailed items back before discovery.
