Death of E. J. McCune Prominent Chanute Merchant
Edward J. McCune 92 a longtime Chanute merchant died at Neosho Memorial Hospital. He retired from the clothing business in 1945 after selling his store with his brother. A former Board of Education and city council member he helped lead church activities. He was born in Illinois and moved to Chanute in 1879. He married Bertha Keifer who died in 1942. He leaves two daughters a son four grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at First Methodist Church with burial in Elmwood.

Little Girl Injured In Chanute Traffic Accident
A 10-year-old Chanute girl Linda Soderquist was struck by a southbound 1962 Thunderbird driven by Betty Allen Ray in front of Tioga Hotel around 2 30 PM yesterday. She suffered a broken left leg above the knee and remains in satisfactory condition at Neosho Memorial Hospital with traction expected for about three weeks.

New Siren For City Car
The city police department purchased an electronic siren with built in radio and public address amplifier. It replaces the car once assigned to City Manager R J Hayes now in fulltime police service. Elderly Woman Dies In Manhattan Crash
An 81-year-old Manhattan woman, Mrs. Emeline Stoddard, was killed in a two car crash five miles west of Manhattan on K-18. She was a passenger in a car driven by her son-in-law Allen Norcross, superintendent of parks, when a vehicle driven by Sgt. Thayne Wilson of Fort Riley struck the Norcross car. The Norcross car left the highway and overturned. Stoddard was pinned beneath the vehicle.
