About 100 State Highway patrolmen escorted nearly 300 workers through hostile crowds at the Harriet-Henderson Cotton Mills in Henderson North Carolina after a night of violence. A 1959 Renault rear ended a truck on US 169 about 22 miles south of Chanute around 2 25 p m. Damage to the Renault was about 400 with no damage to the 1955 Chevrolet truck driven by Ralph Ruggles. Driver Dwayne Julian Steinle, 27, sustained a minor head bump. Investigation assisted by Sheriff Jerry Sloan and Undersheriff Lloyd Moulton.

Theft of coin boxes from two soft drink machines over the weekend reported by police.
