State university systems limit cigarette sales at public colleges and universities effective immediately. Institutions named include University of Kansas Kansas State University Emporia State Pittsburg State Fort Hays State Wichita joins July 1. Est. losses and limited concessions noted, with Kansas Relays drawing 15 000 visitors amid confusion over the rule.

Virginia Beach VA AP The Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel opens today linking Virginia's Eastern Shore to the mainland. The 17.6 mile structure cost 200 million dollars and replaces ferry service dating back to 1607. Governor Harrison opens the span at 2 pm EST. The project includes 12 miles of trestle tunnels and causeways and is praised by the American Society of Civil Engineers as a world engineering wonder. Traffic is expected to average 5000 vehicles daily in year one, up from 2000 for ferries.
Earl Seyfert a 6 8 Humboldt High star center has signed a letter of intent with Kansas State University coach Tex Winter announced. Seyfert 21.9 point scorer led Humboldt to a 22 1 season and will receive an endowment trustee scholarship for high academic ability and leadership potential.
The Small Business Administration designated three Missouri counties Jackson Platte and Cass and Leavenworth County in Kansas as tornado disaster areas. The move allows long term low interest SBA loans to affected businesses and homeowners. Loan offices will open in Leavenworth and Pleasant Hill Missouri plus adjustor offices in Topeka Leavenworth and Independence Missouri to handle claims. Estimated total losses: 1.5 million in eastern Kansas and 1 million in Missouri.
Mauricette Hamlin, 39, of Fairfield, welcomed her ninth daughter at a Waterville hospital Tuesday night. She and husband Robert, 41, already have 11 sons, with the oldest son age 22. both mother and baby are reported doing fine.
Illinois former Governor William G. Stratton was indicted by a federal grand jury on four counts accusing him of evading 46,676.11 dollars in income tax over 1957 to 1960. The grand jury returned the indictment before Judge William J. Campbell in U S District Court, with suppression order lifted this morning. The government says unreported income totaled 82,542.82 dollars.

Weather notes show today in Topeka and area a fair, warm day with highs in the 70s and lows in the 40s to 50s. Tuesday records include 64 in Topeka and 72 in Garden City and Hutchinson, with early lows from 31 in Garden City to 47 in Dodge City.
Robert Montgomery was elected president of the Chanute Association of Life Underwriters at a Tioga Hotel meeting this morning. City receives 2000 multiflora roses, trees, and flowering shrubs from the state forestry extension for park planting. President Johnson told reporters there is no settlement in the five year railroad labor dispute and a decision on whether unions and railroads can settle will come by next Monday. The Cuban Economists Association in Exile reports a record high population with an estimated 7,700,000 inhabitants by late 1964, up from 5,829,029 in 1953. Since 1959, more than 300,000 Cubans have fled into exile as Fidel Castro’s government took power.

Home Savings Association re elected Harry Byers and Tommy Anderson to three year terms on the board at yesterday's annual meeting. Wendell Bowyer and Jean Mitchell were promoted to vice presidents. Officer lineup includes Robert N. Allen as president and managing officer, Byers as vice president, Bowyer as vice president and loan officer, Mitchell as vice president and assistant loan officer, Erma Joe King as secretary, Gloria Goff as accounting supervisor and assistant secretary, and Marion Shike as assistant secretary. Directors include Allen, Horton, Haight, Thompson, and the two re elected board members. Advisory directors named: W. E. Oakes, Bowyer, Gordon Barker, with Mrs. Allen added as fourth advisory member for one year. Allen reported assets of 8.64 million, loans 7.44 million, and savings 7.31 million, with gains totaling 1.19, 0.89, and 0.92 million respectively. The credit union serves about 7,500 savings and loan customers in six southeast Kansas counties and is entering its 79th year as Chanute's oldest financial institution.
A Chanute couple, Clarence Manly and his wife, narrowly escaped a highway tornado that killed three south of Garnett. Their car and another were thrown into a ditch as the funnel passed, destroying a farm driveway and damaging the Manly vehicle. Student teacher Lyle Rockey of Troy, from Emporia State College, was injured and hospitalized with a broken jaw before transfer to Kansas City for further treatment.
A runaway gas well near Calumet erupted with a roar and remained out of control, venting about two million cubic feet of gas per day.
